Why is the Sr. St. Anthony statue was very important to the nuns at the convent.?
I am doing a report on the Ursuline Convent (located in the French Quarter) and i need to know why the Sr. St. Anthony statue is importanat to them becasue in one website it says
” In 1788, a great fire swept away the hundreds of homes and also threatened the convent. Sister St. Anthony, one of the old nuns, climbed the convent stairs carrying the small statue of Our Lady. As the Superior watched, Sr. St. Anthony set the statue on the sill facing the fire, then knelt and prayed with great confidence. At that very instant the wind veered and the flames were blown back.”

And i need to know why she would carry the statue up there i know its importanat but who was St.Anthony and why is she importanat
There was a fire and the old nun, who had chosen the name Anthony (should that not be Antonia??) of the virgin mary – the mother of jesus. For catholics the virgin mary is nearly as important as Jesus and more important to the common people and also many priests than anyone else. When you become an nun or a monk you get a new name – most often you are named after a saint.
She carried the statue, put it to face the fire and prayed, because she was a pius woman and believed that the queen in the heavens could save them if no one else could.
